The seventh season of the Pakistan Super League saw Lahore Qalandars lift the trophy for the first time. After a long wait of 7 years, the Qalandars were finally able to get the glory under the leadership of Shaheen Shah Afridi. Multan Sultans were the runner-up in the previous season, and Karachi Kings ended their campaign at the bottom of the table.
The previous edition of the PSL had many high-scoring games in it. A few batsmen piled up tons of runs in the competition. So, we have brought you the top 10 run scorers of the PSL 2022. We will also tell you about their averages, strike rates, half-centuries, and hundreds.
So, let’s get started.
-
Fakhar Zaman

The opener of the Champion team, Fakhar Zaman, was the highest run-getter in PSL 2023. At an average of 45.23 and a strike rate of 152.72, he brought up 588 runs in the season. These runs came in only 13 innings, along with 7 half-centuries and a blistering hundred.
Fakhar was consistent throughout the whole tournament. Not only did he score runs, but he also scored them at a brisk rate. His stats clearly reflect it. The left-hander’s form with the bat was the main reason behind Qalandars’ road to the final.
-
Mohammad Rizwan

After Rizwan got picked by Multan Sultans in the PSL 2021 draft, he has been truly phenomenal in the league. After being the second-highest run-scorer in PSL 2021, he achieved the same feat in the 2022 edition as well. Rizwan amassed 546 runs in just 12 innings at an amazing average of 68.25.
The wicketkeeper scored 7 half-centuries in just 12 games, which is quite unbelievable. His best score in the tournament was 83*. The only downside of his stats is the strike rate of 126.68. There’s certainly room for improvement there, but his runs powered the Multan side to the final for the second successive time.
-
Shan Masood

Rizwan’s opening partner, Shan Masood, is third on the list of highest run-getters in PSL 2022. His 12 innings produced 478 runs at a superb average of 39.83. With a strike rate of 138.15, he scored runs in quick time and complimented his opening partner well.
In comparison to Fakhar’s and Rizwan’s 7 fifties, Shan scored just 4. However, he was consistent and played impact knocks of the 30s and 40s regularly to provide a solid start to Multan. The opening duo of Shan and Rizwan was the key behind Multan topping the tables in the league stages.
-
Shoaib Malik

The veteran batsman was the highest run scorer for Peshawar Zalmi in their last campaign. In his 11 outings, Malik piled up 401 runs. His average of 44.55 and strike rate of 137.32 exhibit his dominance in the middle overs. Malik scored three 50s in the season, and his highest score was 58. Zalmi used him as a finisher, and he did his job incredibly well.
-
Alex Hales

Alex Hales was the leading run-getter amongst the foreign players in PSL 8. Also, he scored the most runs amongst the Islamabad United batters. The opener played only 9 games for his franchise but went on to get 355 runs. The flamboyant batsman scored three half-centuries, and his best in the season was 82*.
But what stands out about him is his strike rate. Alex Hales was striking as much as 147.3 in the PSL 2022. The Englishman was unstoppable in the powerplay and made a massive impact on the game.
-
Babar Azam

Babar Azam was totally out of touch in the event, and his strike rate of 118.68 is enough to tell that. But he still finds himself as the 6th highest run scorer of the tournament. Such is the class of the man that he gets amongst the top performers even on his worst days.
The Karachi Kings captain in the previous season piled up 343 runs in 10 innings. He was averaging 38.11 and scored a couple of half-centuries. Babar’s best score in the season was 90*. The biggest failure of Babar in the season was not being able to convert the starts he got.
-
Mohammad Hafeez

The 2022 edition was probably the last time when we saw Mohammad Hafeez in action in PSL. If that is so, he ended his PSL journey in grand fashion by getting the Player of the Match award in the final and lifting the trophy with Lahore Qalandars. The veteran was not in great form during the league and struggled in almost every game.
In his 13 innings, Hafeez brought up 323 runs. He averaged 29.3 runs per innings and was striking at just 128.68. He hadn’t scored even a single fifty in the first 12 matches. However, he scored 69 in the final when his team had lost 3 wickets in the powerplay.
-
Jason Roy

Jason Roy was the Quetta Gladiators’ top run-getter in PSL 8. He was also the second-highest run-scorer amongst the foreign players. The more surprising thing is that he played only 6 matches to get both these records. The English opener smashed a couple of half-centuries in the competition. These 6 knocks included a brilliant hundred as well.
This ton turned out to be a match-winning innings, and it came against Lahore Qalandars’ bowling lineup, which contained Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Rashid Khan in it. Overall, Roy accumulated 303 runs at an average of 50.5. Also, his strike rate of 170.22 is the highest amongst the top 10 run scorers.
-
Kamran Ghulam

Kamran Ghulam wasn’t considered to be a great T20 batter, but Lahore Qalandars trusted him to feature regularly in their playing XI. He repaid the faith by scoring 299 runs in his 13 innings at an average of 24.91. He scored a half-century and played the anchor role pretty well. His strike rate of 117.25 wasn’t that impressive, though.
-
Azam Khan
