After the introduction of two new teams in the league, IPL no longer follows the double round-robin format. Each team in the league will play the 5 teams of the other group twice and the other 4 teams of their own group once.
Therefore, all 10 IPL teams will play 14 league matches. The total number of matches in the league stages will be 70. These 70 games will be played across 52 days and will include 18 double-headers. The league phase will be followed by playoffs and the final. So a total of 74 matches will be played in IPL 2023.
Key Dates
The league will kickstart on the 31st of March with a match between Gujrat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. The first double-header of the season will be played on the first of April. The final game of the league phase will be contested between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujrat Titans on the 21st of May. The league will conclude on the 28th of May, as the final will be played that day.

Top 5 Matchups in IPL 2023
The Indian Premier League features all the great T20 players from across the world. From all those world-class players, we have chosen the 5 most exciting matchups for IPL 2023. Let’s check them out:
-
Ben Stokes vs. Rashid Khan
Rashid Khan of Gujarat Titans and Ben Stokes of Gujrat Titans are two of the biggest white-ball stars in IPL 2023. The two guys are proven match-winners in the format. Also, the leg spinner against the left-hander sets up the perfect matchup.
Ben Stokes has faced Rashid Khan 6 times in T20 cricket. Rashid has dismissed Stokes thrice in only 21 balls. The southpaw will certainly want to improve his stats against the leggie. Stokes will be CSK’s main middle-order batsman, while Rashid will be GT’s main bowler in the middle overs. So, it’s going to be a fascinating battle to witness.
-
Rohit Sharma vs. Trent Boult
The two former Mumbai Indians will face each other in the next IPL. Trent Boult opens the bowling for Rajasthan Royals, while Rohit Sharma opens the batting for Mumbai Indians. Hitman has had issues against the left-arm pace with the new ball, and Boult will look to exploit that area of his game.
Trent Boult has dismissed Rohit Sharma 4 times in 12 innings. The right-hander has scored 67 runs against him on 48 deliveries. Trent Boult has the upper hand on Rohit Sharma so far in the format. It will be interesting to see whether the Mumbai Indians’ captain can eradicate this weakness or not.
-
Jos Buttler vs. Sam Curran
Jos Butler was the captain of the T20 World Cup 2022 winning team, England. Sam Curran was the Player of the Series in the same tournament as he played under Jos Butler. Butler will open the batting for Rajasthan Royals, and Sam Curran could be Punjab Kings’ go-to-man against him. Considering Butler bats long and deep in T20 cricket, these two can also face each other in the slog overs.
-
Virat Kohli vs. Yuzvendra Chahal
The former RCB teammates will now be the rivals. Virat Kohli is likely to bat at the one-down position for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Yuzvendra Chahal will likely start his spell for Rajasthan Royals straight after the batting powerplay. Hence we can see them face each other in IPL 2023. So far, Virat has scored 6 runs off 9 balls against Chahal in T20s, and he is yet to be dismissed by him.
-
Harry Brook vs. Wanindu Hasaranga
These two cricketers have faced each other only once in this format before. But what makes this clash a breathtaking one is their style of playing and the amount of talent they possess. Wanindu Hasaranga (from Royal Challengers Bangalore) has 186 T20 wickets to his name with an economy rate of 6.74. Whereas Harry Brook (from Sunrisers Hyderabad) scores runs at a superb strike rate of 148.38. Brook loves to dominate spin, and Hasaranga will be a tough competitor for him.
