Desert Vipers vs. Gulf Giants Finals Match 34

The inaugural edition of the UAE’s ILT20 League has come to a conclusion. The final of the tournament was played between the Desert Vipers and the Gulf Giants in a jam-packed Dubai stadium. The Giants got to the glory and lifted the trophy of the first season of the tournament.

Let’s take a look at the match happenings and their influence on the market:

Match 34: Desert Vipers vs. Gulf Giants, Finals

Gulf Giants 149 for 3 (Lynn 72, Brathwaite 3/19) beat Desert Vipers 146 for 8 (Hasaranga 55 & 1/28(56%), Curran 13 & 1/32(↓13%)) by 7 wickets.

The Gulf Giants invited the Desert Vipers to bat first in the final. Carlos Brathwaite struck gold in the second over to send back Alex Hales(↓6%) for just 1. The Vipers went into a shell after seeing the back of their key batsman. They couldn’t gather any sort of momentum and ended up losing 4 wickets for just 44. 8.3 overs had been bowled, and the batting side was going nowhere.

Then came Wanindu Hasaranga(56%), and the game turned on its head. The all-rounder whacked 55 runs in only 27 deliveries to change the complexion of the innings. When he fell, the score was 116 for 6, and 29 balls were still left in the innings. But the Vipers could only get to 146 for 8 at the end of their batting innings.

The chase didn’t start well for the Giants as the first couple of wickets fell for just 26 runs in 4.1 overs. James Vince and Colin de Grandhomme were both back in the pavilion, and the Vipers were on top. But then, a 73-run partnership between Chris Lynn and Gerhard Erasmus brought the game into balance.

When Erasmus fell for 30(33), the equation was down to 47 off 33. Meanwhile, Chris Lynn stood firm and kept scoring runs at will. He played a superb innings of 72*(50) to take his side home. Shimron Hetmyer(↓2%) helped him with a quick cameo of 25*(13). The Gulf Giants won the final by 7 wickets and 8 balls to spare.
