As reported earlier, Rashid Khan has been named the chief of the Afghanistan T20I group. He took over the responsibilities from Mohammad Nabi who ventured down following Afghanistan’s mission in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Mirwais Ashraf, executive of the Afghanistan cricket board, proposed Rashid to take control of the job, with the legspinner having prior led the country in seven T20Is in 2019. Rashid had likewise led Afghanistan in seven ODIs in 2018-19 and furthermore two Tests in 2019.
In Rashid’s past captaincy stretch, Afghanistan won four out of the seven matches under his administration, not to forget the two triumphs against the West Indies in Lucknow. Rashid’s most recent captaincy stretch will start in February 2023 when Afghanistan visits UAE to play three T20Is against the hosts.

Talking about his arrangements, Rashid, the third-highest wicket-taker in T20Is, said: “Captaincy is an immense responsibility. I have the experience of driving my nation previously, there is an extraordinary bundle of folks with whom I have a decent working experience and I feel really good being back in the leadership role under their shadow. We will try our best in the field and give pride and pleasure to our nation and its people.”
