Indian Premier League (IPL) holds a special place in the hearts of cricket fans. Usually, whenever we hear about IPL, we remember those high-scoring matches, gigantic sixes, and plenty of thrillers. T20 cricket has always been considered in favor of the batsman, and it’s hard for bowlers to restrict batsmen.
However, there have been quite a few matches where bowlers have entirely dominated the batting lineup of the opposition and restricted them to a low total.
3 Lowest IPL Totals
Let’s take a look at the 3 worst batting shows by a team in the Indian Premier League:
1. Royal Challengers Bangalore – 49 vs Kolkata Knight Riders, IPL 2017
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered the lowest-ever total in the history of the Indian Premier League. RCB managed to score just 49 runs in their encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in the 2017 season of the IPL. It is one of the most talked-about matches in the history of the IPL.
While batting first, KKR were dismissed for a score of 131. It was supposed to be a cakewalk chase for RCB, considering the star-studded batting lineup they possessed. However, the run chase didn’t go as per the plans of RCB. Bangalore lost the early wicket of Virat Kohli, and the whole team couldn’t soak in the pressure of the run chase.
Gambhir was very aggressive in terms of setting up the field and creating pressure on the batsmen. Counter Nile picked up three wickets in his first three overs. Later Chris Woakes and Colin De Grandhome too joined the party. In the end, RCB were bowled out for 49 runs in 9.4 overs.

2. Rajasthan Royals – 58 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, IPL 2009
Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League in 2008. However, the 2009 season of IPL was a season to forget for them. It started with a horror performance with the bat in the second game of IPL 2009. Rajasthan were all out for 58 runs against RCB in the 2009 season and it was another lowest team score in IPL history.
Rajasthan Royal’s bowling attack did a good job by restricting RCB to a total of 133 runs in the first innings. However, the batting lineup of Rajasthan didn’t have any answers for the fascinating spell of Anil Kumble, who put up figures of 5/5 in 3.1 overs. Kumble took the crucial wickets of Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja, Shane Warne, Munaf Patel, and Kamran Khan. Rajasthan managed to score just 58 runs in the run chase, which lasted only 15.1 overs.
3. Delhi Daredevils – 66 all out vs Mumbai Indians, IPL 2017
Delhi Daredevils had a poor season in IPL 2017. The lowest point for Delhi in IPL 2017 came when they were dismissed for a total of 66 runs against Mumbai Indians. While batting first, Mumbai put up a humongous score of 212/3 in 20 overs courtesy of the brilliant half-centuries of Lendl Simmons and Kieron Pollard. Delhi crumbled under the pressure of a big run chase.
DD managed to score just 66 runs in reply to the massive target. Lasith Malinga gave the early breakthrough in the powerplay. The spin duo of Harbhajan Singh and Karan Sharma took 3 wickets each and dismantled the batting lineup of Delhi. Mumbai Indians won the match by a massive margin of 146 runs, which remains one of the biggest wins in the history of the IPL. Earlier too, in the same season, Delhi was all out for 67 runs against Kings XI Punjab.
