Peshawar Zalmi kept themselves alive in the tournament by knocking out Islamabad United. Now, they will face Lahore Qalandars in the second eliminator as they are just 2 wins away from their 2nd PSL trophy. Let’s take a look at the details of the first eliminator.

 

1st Eliminator: Islamabad United vs. Peshawar Zalmi

 

Peshawar Zalmi 183 for 8 (Babar 64(↑11%), Irshad 2/18) beat Islamabad United 171 for 6 (Maqsood 60, Hales 57(↑13%)) by 12 runs.

 

Islamabad United won the toss, and surprisingly, they opted to chase. Peshawar Zalmi got off to a fantastic start after scoring 77 runs in the powerplay. Babar Azam(↑11%) played a classy innings of 64 runs in 39 balls. Saim Ayub and Mohammad Haris(↑6%) contributed with 23(16) and 34(17), respectively. When Babar got out, Peshawar were 137 for 3 after 13 overs. But after his dismissal, Zalmi could score only 45 runs in 42 balls.

With 184 required, the United lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz(↓21%) in the second over of the chase. Then, a huge partnership of 115 runs between Alex Hales(↑13%) and Sohaib Maqsood put their side in the driver’s seat. Hales scored 57 off 37 while Maqsood got 60 off 48. Islamabad were favourites with 56 runs needed off the final 6 overs and 9 wickets in hand. But the next 27 balls brought 5 wickets for just 26 runs. Shadab Khan(↑9%) tried to get his team closer to the target with 12-ball 26, but it wasn’t enough.

 

Turning Point of the Match

 

The partnership between Hales and Maqsood had almost ended the game for Peshawar. But Aamer Jamal got both of them out in his consecutive overs to turn the game on its head.

Babar’s stocks raised by ₹19.2 on Thursday. Alex Hales(↑13%) and Mohammad Haris(↑6%) were also among the gainers, with an increase of ₹5.2 and ₹12.5, respectively. Whereas Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s(↓21%) value fell by ₹18.6.
