The second double-header of season 8 of the Pakistan Super League was played on the 26th of February. Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars won their matches, while Multan Sultans and the Peshawar Zalmi were handed a defeat. Keep reading to check the match details and market changes.

 

Match 14: Karachi Kings vs. Multan Sultans

 

Karachi Kings 167 for 3 (Tayyab 65, Shamsi 3/18) beat Multan Sultans 101 all out (Shan 25(0%), Ihsanullah 2/22) by 66 runs.

 

After being invited to bat first, James Vince(↑11%) continued his form from his previous outing. He scored 27 runs in 12 balls to get the Kings off to a flyer. He was replaced at the crease by the debutant Tayyab Tahir, who batted with James Vince(↑11%) for 109 runs. Tayyab played a highly impressive innings of 65(46) while Wade struggled for a 47-ball 46. Imad Wasim(↑4%) smashed 14 off 6 to help KK post 167 on the board.

The chase started well for Multan as the openers scored 41 runs in the first 5 overs. But then, Shan Masood(0%) was dismissed for an attacking 25 off 16. The Sultans kept losing wickets regularly as the Kings’ spin trio ran through their batting order. Mohammad Rizwan got out after scoring 29 off 25. The chasing side was cleaned up for 101 runs in 16.3 overs. Shoaib Malik and Tabraiz Shamsi bagged 3 wickets each, while Imad Wasim(↑4%) picked 2.

The chase was going well for Multan before Akif Javed got the wicket of Shan Masood(0%). After his departure, MS had no clue against the spinning ball.

 

Match 15: Lahore Qulandars vs. Peshawar Zalmi

 

Lahore Qulandars 241 for 3(Fakhar 96(↑55%), Shaheen 5/40(↑6%)) beat Peshawar Zalmi 201 for 9(Cadmore 55, Saim 51) by 40 runs.

 

Peshawar Zalmi won the toss, and they also went for the chase. The Qalandars were in trouble as they got to just 36 for 1 at the end of the powerplay. But then, Fakhar Zaman(↑55%) and Abdullah Shafique went after the bowling, and the Zalmi bowlers were found wanting. The two scored 93 runs in the next 7 overs. The former scored 96 off 45, while the latter smashed 75 off 41. Sam Billings joined the party and thrashed 47 off 23, and Peshawar were asked to chase a massive total of 242 runs.

Shaheen Shah Afridi(↑6%) cleaned up Mohammad Haris and Babar Azam(↓12%) in his first two overs. Both of them fell to absolute jaffas from the Lahore skipper. Then, Saim Ayub and Tom Kohler-Cadmore kept the game alive with a 91-run stand. Saim scored 51 off 34 while Tom played a punishing knock of 55(23). However, both of them fell in a span of 6 balls, and the Qalandars took complete control from there. Shaheen grabbed a 5-fer as Lahore won by 40 runs and got to the third position on the points table.

When Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Saim Ayub were batting, PZ were well in the hunt. But when Haris Rauf broke the partnership by dismissing the Englishman, they lost the plot completely.

Market Update

 

Fakhar Zaman’s(↑55%) price took a huge jump of 69.6 SPQs on Sunday. James Vince(↑11%), Imad Wasim(↑4%), and Shaheen Shah Afridi(↑6%) got their value up by 18, 9.6, and 6.2 SPQs, respectively. Rashid Khan’s(↓30%) expensive spell resulted in a price drop of 28.9 SPQs for him. Wahab Riaz also got his value depreciated by 24 SPQs.
