Match 27: Peshawar Zalmi vs. Multan Sultans

Multan Sultans 244 for 6 (Rossouw 121, Abbas 4/39) beat Peshawar Zalmi 242 for 6 (Babar 73(↑24%), Haris 35(↑43%)) by 4 wickets.

Babar Azam(↑24%) and Saim Ayub stitched another massive opening partnership while batting first. They batted together for just 70 deliveries and scored 134 runs. It was their 3rd 100+ stand-in as many partnerships together. Saim departed after scoring 58 off 33 with the help of 5 fours and 4 sixes. The skipper was once again the pick of the Zalmi batters as he hammered a 39-ball 73. Mohammed Haris(↑43%) chipped in with a sensational cameo of 35 runs.

He whacked a boundary and 4 maximums in just 11 balls. Tom Kohler-Cadmore provided the required finishing touch by thrashing 4 fours and 2 sixes. His 18-ball stay produced 38 runs. Azmatullah Omarzai and Wahab Riaz(↑0%) scored 16*(6) and 7*(2) to take the score to 242 for 6 at the end of 20 overs. Abbas Afridi took 4 wickets for Multan. But the highlight of the first innings for the bowling side was two brilliant catches by Kieron Pollard at the boundary line.

The Sultans’ openers contributed just 12 runs in the chase as Zalmi picked up a couple of early wickets. Rilee Rossouw(↑67%) was not at all bothered by the situation as he was toying with the bowlers. His 99-run partnership with Kieron Pollard took just 43 deliveries. Pollard got out after hammering 52 off 25. Then, Tim David(↓14%) and Khushdil Shah(↑0%) fell cheaply to allow Peshawar to get back into the contest.

But Rossouw was just going in top gear, and the Zalmi bowlers had no answers to him. He finally got out after scoring 121 runs in just 51 balls, along with 12 fours and 8 sixes. At his dismissal, the target was just 16 off 9. Anwar Ali played an important cameo of 24*(8), while Usama Mir thrashed a four and a six in his 3-ball innings to seal the victory.

Turning Point of the Match

Multan were under pressure after losing 2 early wickets in a huge run chase. But, the 99-run stand between Rossouw and Pollard turned the game on its head.
