Desert Vipers vs. Gulf Giants

It was another double header in the DP World T20 League on Sunday. Gulf Giants and Dubai Capitals won their matches, defeating Desert Vipers and MI Emirates, respectively. Let’s see who were the top performers on day 10 and how it changed their market value.

 

Match 12: Desert Vipers vs. Gulf Giants

 

Gulf Giants 196 for 5 (Lynn 71 (↓-26%), Hetmyer 70 (↑47%)) beat Desert Vipers 195 for 4 (Hales 99 (↑51%), Cottrell 2/24 (↑3%)) by 5 wickets.

 

The two unbeaten sides in the competition met for the first time on Sunday. Desert Vipers got off to a super start while batting first. Alex Hales(↑51%) continued his golden run of form and brought up a 72-run opening partnership with Rohan Mustafa. Then, he combined with Colin Munro(↑12%) to form a 67-run partnership.

Hales was nearing his second hundred in successive innings but was unlucky to be caught on the boundary at 99. After his wicket, the Vipers could score just 22 runs in 3 overs and ended the innings on 195 for 4.

In pursuit of a hefty chase, Gulf Giants lost 3 wickets for just 30 runs. Chris Lynn(↓-26%), who was playing his first match in the league, was joined by Shimron Hetmyer(↑47%) in the middle. The two batters allied for a match-winning partnership of 117 runs in just 56 deliveries. When Hetmyer was dismissed after scoring 70, the target was just 49 runs in 45 deliveries. David Wiese and Liam Dawson finished the job with 3 balls left in the innings.

 

Match 13: Dubai Capitals vs. MI Emirates

 

Dubai Capitals 222 for 3 (Powell 97 (↑3%), Root 82) beat MI Emirates 206 for 5 (Pollard (↑68%), Zadran 30) by 16 runs.

 

The second game on Sunday turned out to be another high-scoring contest. Dubai Capitals batted first and got off to a solid start with a 78-run partnership between the openers. After Robin Uthappa‘s(↓-6%) dismissal for 26 runs, Rovman Powell(↑83%) walked out to bat.  He and Joe Root stitched a 119-run stand before tha latter was dismissed for 82. Powell was dismissed on the final ball of the innings at the score of 97, and the Capitals finished on 222 for 3.

MI Emirates were found wanting in the chase as the powerplay ended at 26 for 3. Then, a massive partnership of  118 runs between Andre Fletcher(↓-6%) and Kieron Pollard(↑68%)  saw Emirates get back into the game. Pollard was dismissed after scoring 86, and the equation was 79 off 24.

Najibullah Zadran scored 30 off 9, and Samit Patel smashed 18 off 6 to get close, but the Emirates had left themselves with too many to get at the end. The Capitals won the game by 16 runs and moved to the 4th spot in the points table.

Rovman Powell(↑83%) played a sensational innings of 97 runs in just 41 deliveries. He also picked up a wicket to take his total SportiScore to 93.2. Kieron Pollard(↑68%) was quite expensive with the ball as he returned with the figures of 1 for 46 in 4 overs. But his blazing knock of 86 runs in 38 deliveries took his SportiScore sum to 78 on day 10.

Alex Hales(↑51%) kept riding the momentum wave of his form and earned 62 SportiScores, thanks to his innings of 99 runs in 57 deliveries. Shimron Hetmyer(↑47%) also played a brilliant innings of 70 runs in 35 deliveries and earned 57.1 SportiScores.

Market Update

 

Rovman Powell’s(↑83%) price went up by 83.65 SPQs after his fine all-round performance. Keiron Pollard’s value also increased by 68.3 SPQs. Alex Hales(↑51%) and Shimron Hetmyer(↑47%) also gained more value with a price increment of 51.2 and 47.1 SPQs, respectively. On the other hand, Wanindu Hasaranga’s price decreased by 29.3 SPQs.
